Columbia's rich marine wildlife scene. Discovery Passage (between Vancouver Island and mainland BC) is home to a huge variety of seabirds and marine mammals.
Steller sea lions, harbour seals, great blue herons and bald eagles are part of the everyday wildlife experience on the water surrounding Vancouver Island.
Porpoises and dolphins may show up to grace our bow or stern wake. Bear viewing by boat is the only way to watch these magnificent creatures go about their business on the wild BC coast. Both Black Bears and Grizzly Bears can be sought out as they turn over rocks on the beach looking for crabs to eat or as they fish for spawning salmon in rivers and streams in the Fall.
Orcas (Killer Whales) can be observed just north of Campbell River, where they congregate throughout the summer. Migratory Orcas travel in smaller pods while occasional "superpods", comprised of 50 to 100 resident whales, make newspaper headlines when they congregate between Campbell River and Quadra Island. This body of water, between Vancouver island and the islands bordering the mainland of British Columbia is also the main route for freighters, commercial fishing vessels, tug boats, and cruise ships.
Steller Sea Lions reside on rocky island beaches from fall through the springtime. In the warmer summer weather they journey north to Alaskan waters, returning in the fall.
The raucous roaring of the big bulls carries across the water so it's easy to find them! We can get close with the boat so the picture taking opportunities are incredible.
Picturesque float houses, BC Coast Mountain views and northern Gulf Island seascapes greet you at every turn.
